RENTALS – I’ve spent so much time with this stuff in the shop, it’s time to hit record!!

Everything comes with Recall sheets and Mogami breakout snakes (XLR and TRS) Each rack has a EDAC90 on the back for quick connection. I’m working on LF and TT patchbays…

This is an advert we did for Tanda Recording
The effort / thought was that in a small market a package price would reduce fear of the unknown costs of recording in a Studio. I think it came out great.

Neve Desk
I recently saved this Neve desk from imminent scrapping. I needed a work surface while designing something and it was perfect.
It’s now got a new purpose at my home office. Its a little weird in terms of rack screws and such.
The wieght of the steel rack weighs its do to apear floating

Transfering Records in reverse
I was given a 78 to transfer. When I transfer something one of a kind I do 3 passes. The first is dry, dusted as the client delivered.
The second is wet (Ultrasonic bath if possible)
The third is in reverse. I find it cuts the pops and skips differently. EX: if you have a scratch in one direction it MAY not show up in the reversed transfer. Edit together and whadaya get… bitty bopity boo.
Dan Dugan Override issue
I had an interesting bug with a Dugan the other day. Almost lost my mics to air, but when bypassed at the channel insert… I got to air (although I did get skunked on a mic slipping).
I recreated the fault, and found a way out of it by switch the control bus from A to B.

idle Idlers on tape decks
sometimes, there’s no hope for a tape… no matter what condition it’s in. After a few hours in the oven, this 499 is pretty much toast. If it were on an A80 or ATR it would play, but a machine like this MTR is flawed from the get go. May as well replace this part with a razor blade.

EASY CUT CABLE TIES
This Is So Easy
It’s not rocket science but the clever addition of a simple niche to the cable tie design! The Easy_to_Cut cable tie makes snipping off a tie easier and safer. Been there; done that – the pain of snipping of cable ties can lead to a whole lot things going wrong. For example, I have once managed to snip off the external cable that covers and protected my extension cord wire. Easy_to_Cut resolves these issues by providing a built-in niche into which the tip of a cutting implement’s blade can be inserted. Superb!
Easy_to_Cut is a 2012 red dot award: design concept winner.

Consolidating Hard drives

Practicing what I preach. Moving (14) drives into long term storage. Pulled all the backups out of the safety deposite box, and moved their contents move forward onto a 3TB hard drive.
Once it’s all checked for redundancies I will back it up to another drive off site.
For anyone nocking my non-antistatic plastic bags, I assure you they performed perfectly and will the next time I spin them up. Silica and a way for them to breath is fine.
This is client sessions, designs, pictures, documents, notes etc etc dating back to about 2001. I have Client DVD archives at home I don’t plan to move forward as it is mostly damaged and virus ridden from before I went all OSX.
Now I need to find a Hard drive shipping container from a computer store… Anyone?

Since the beginning of this console build: 13 has had every problem. and it continues to this day. I think consoles should be like elevators and be 25, 33… 49 channels

In an effort to avoid feedback and improve intelligibility, I push it back. It’s like giving the mic 2.5 feet extra away from the driver.
its un-noticeable to the audience and the poodles don’t start noticing it until 10ms (so don’t worry)
Show up to work
I show up to work and there’s a new console. It’s amazing how fast things can change when you look away for a few days.
Not the biggest proponent of digital desks, but this desk vs the M7CL it replaced is a HUGE improvement in sound quality. Now only if someone did a touchscreen Mod and software upgrade…
