I love interesting weird audio problems—the stranger the better! When a colleague reached out with a baffling issue of severe signal loading on their freshly built instrument cables, I knew it was right up my alley. It involved high-quality components behaving badly, and it was a great reminder that even experts can overlook a small but critical detail buried in the cable specifications. Continue reading

Recording studio Survival Guide
When it comes to recording studios, it’s easy to obsess over gear—the mics, preamps, monitors, and plugins that shape your sound. But while equipment is critical, it’s often the overlooked details that make or break a session. A forgotten cable, an overheated amp, or even a lack of snacks can grind the creative process to a halt. That’s where this Studio Survival Guide comes in. It’s a practical checklist for everything beyond the gear—cleaning supplies, tools, food, and creature comforts—that keeps sessions running smoothly and everyone focused on making great music. Whether you’re a seasoned engineer or a first-time studio owner, this guide ensures you’re prepared for anything, so the session never skips a beat.

Sound guy xmas idea #27 – ROLI seaboard Studio
A very new form of expressive keyboard has been introduced by ROLI in London. They craft a very intuitive keyboard like no other called the seaboard. Recently they released the seaboard studio.
I look at it as finally giving true pitch control to keyboardists.
“It’s not a keyboard it’s a seaboard”
C heck it out:
Sound guy xmas idea #14 – A custom piece of studio furniture
If it’s not custom it’s crap. And, if it’s not designed and built with the love and respect for the craft like Brock at 2egress builds, it’s also crap.
I met Brock my first week in Toronto and was blown away by his designs and builds. The most elegant, tasteful, and quality Recording Studio Furniture on the market.
If you want to deliver something special to your special sound guy you will have to order it soon, like today if you want delivery by xmas.
Check out his website: 2egress.com and give him a call, he will inspire something you’ve never thought of.

What every studio needs

Searching for a small reverb tank… 1BB3C1B – Who hoards these?
I’m repairing a Yamaha PG-1 guitar pre-amp and am in need of a reverb tank

The spring had come apart inside and the other spring must have broken in the past and was removed.
