Making snakes for a Patching system

We Built some 24 Channel snakes from some re-claimed Blenden Bundles.  All the EDACs were de-pinned and re-inserted into a 90 pin housing.  The other end has been cut to length and re-prepped into various configurations. Dave got some really good practice on this build and his chops have come a long way in a very short time.

20130530 – new WBS Console Side Panels

There has been talks of 12 channel consoles being made so designs are moving from paper to cad… I’ve been dreaming up a new design of side panel that can lay flay or be stood upright using a support. The idea is to put them on an island in either upright or flat positions. The faders would be flat in the mix position, and angled in the upright position. The back interconnect would be all edacs.

20100424 – Roxanne – a WBS R1200 resto mod

One of my first ground up restores. This was a console with 12 Mic pre-amps, direct outs, summing and a monitor. It had a “Red Light” on the meter bridge… so I added a switch that said “POTRL” that “Put on the Red Light” and so it became “Roxanne” It’s still in use today but could use some tweaks I’ve learned from experience. We’re working on a very similar project right now, so It’s very cool to look back and learn.

The biggest lesson: it’s hard to put a value on a labour of love and curiosity, but bill accordingly.

Redrawing some old WBS metal for a project

I’m redrawing some WBS metal and I go to draw in the lower grooves and realize… this is first Gen extrusion… not 2nd Gen

A new member of the family: It’s a Gorton!

I’ve been restoring WBS consoles for about 10 years now, and I think I’ve just taken the art of what I love doing to the next level. I have acquired THE Gorton P1-2 used at the WBS factory. It was used for their custom buttons, and their early one off panels.

This all began in 2009 while restoring a console. I was building a panel and wanted the exact engraving the factory did. http://wikigear.org/wiki/index.php?title=Image:APK_20091218-Antoinette_010.JPG This lead me to ask around and it turned out a past employee of WBS had the machine in his home shop. Fast forward 4 years and it’s got a new home in the Revolution Recording Custom Shop.

Some WBS manuals

Here are some WBS manuals that have been consolidated. Their Functional Diagrams, Layouts have been preserved but the details are no longer with us. A “vanilla” complete copy of the console / communication system have been archived and will soon be scanned for the archive…
