A Social Experiment

I’ve been thinking about a social experiment.
I often take calls from people looking for services, I’ve met a lot of great people in this industry and I do stand by their great work and contributions.   So instead of fielding calls and answering the questions I’ve created a Wizard Services section at http://audioaholics.com/wizard_services

I am asking you my friends to use it to work, get work share work and do work together.  I would like to consider it my rolodex

I’ve got the permission to post a few contacts and will be doing so this week.

Youtube sound quality…

I was watching an Interesting lecture from google and Andrew Scheps had an interesting point about youtube audio: Youtube doesn’t have an option to select audio rate. The sound rate is based directly on the video playback rate. The lesson: If you are uploading songs to youtube with a place holder video, be sure it’s at 1080p. The audio will be fixed at 128kbps when the video is encoded under 720P and default to 384kbps at 1080P. Other great info: if you’re topping out the encoder, lower it 0.7dB

you know… I love this man and am forever in his debt.  He’s made laboratory grade audio equipment available to music / broadcast industry for many years and his standards and  interests have grown since his beginning.  Truly a childlike interest in pushing the boundaries of the craft he practices. He applies raw physics to sound and you should watch this as a whole to appreciate the brilliance of his passion and dedication.  

I’m glad someone as enthusiastic as Hutch Hutchison is at his side absorbing it all. (though he left RND)

Making snakes for a Patching system

We Built some 24 Channel snakes from some re-claimed Blenden Bundles.  All the EDACs were de-pinned and re-inserted into a 90 pin housing.  The other end has been cut to length and re-prepped into various configurations. Dave got some really good practice on this build and his chops have come a long way in a very short time.

The 1/2 designer was the EE – Lacie WhizKey failure

After a year on my key chain, my Lacie WhizKey is unreadable :-( Could anyone recommend a solid replacement?

The cap that came supplied had no locking mechanism, it was lost thus making the contacts exposed to the environment. Cleaning the contacts has brought the device back in the past but I it’s now beyond repair. What a disappointment, it looks so good.
