RLC calculator for components in series

I’ve been calculating a lot of components in series lately for an ECR255 class. I’ve also had to graph them on impedance diagrams and a power triangle.

In an effort to better understand the math I made a calculator for myself. Here is it for you to use and enjoy. If you see any problems please let me know. It was designed in excel 2011 for mac… there WILL be compatibility issues and I hope they’re minor.

How it works:

You can fill int the info you have in the orange boxes. Once the boxes are filled in the calculator should fill in the rest.

If you need to modify anything else, it’s all dependant on the orange boxes. I suggest a goal seek by modifying and orange cell.

was talking with someone about gold today

I was talking with one of my teachers today about gold in ICs. All the gold is in the wires of big chips…
so I looked around and found another video about the PCB plating

THEN, blessings to youtube, there is a guy smelting it

The day Google unplugs, is the day the worlds knowledge disappear

Using a POD 2 switcher

I wanted to add some components to my home listening system, so a switcher was needed. I’ve decided to use a POD 2 switcher…
the POD-2 is a (6) Stereo input – stereo switcher that has the ability to sum all inputs. The output of the switcher feeds a Stereo Penny and Giles fader then directly to the Mackie HR824 speakers.
I’ve got to find a panel… but as far as home friendly user interface goes this is as simple as it gets.
1 Turn Table
2 Radio
3 Mac Mini
4 Cassette
5
6 Airport Express out

A Social Experiment

I’ve been thinking about a social experiment.
I often take calls from people looking for services, I’ve met a lot of great people in this industry and I do stand by their great work and contributions.   So instead of fielding calls and answering the questions I’ve created a Wizard Services section at http://audioaholics.com/wizard_services

I am asking you my friends to use it to work, get work share work and do work together.  I would like to consider it my rolodex

I’ve got the permission to post a few contacts and will be doing so this week.

As much as I AVoID it – I really love the “clip gain” feature in pro tools 10

I’m doing some work for a convention… editing a lectern mic for archival, and mic technique isn’t the forte of the crowd.  But to turn around 70 min of dialog in 15 min using pro tools and clip gain is the only tool for the job.

If only I could author a CD right from pro tools.   Still have to resort to the now abandoned “Peak Pro”

The 1/2 designer was the EE – Lacie WhizKey failure

After a year on my key chain, my Lacie WhizKey is unreadable :-( Could anyone recommend a solid replacement?

The cap that came supplied had no locking mechanism, it was lost thus making the contacts exposed to the environment. Cleaning the contacts has brought the device back in the past but I it’s now beyond repair. What a disappointment, it looks so good.

Spectrafoo or Smaart?

I’m looking to invest in a mobile acoustic measurement software and am looking for opinions.

I’ve been playing with the Spectrafoo Demo and I must say it’s very impressive
http://mhsecure.com/metric_halo/products/software/spectrafoo.html and it’s very competitively priced. The Main thing appealing to me about foo is the “Transfer Function Measurement System” I became familiar with while using a SIM system… This to me is the most valuable feature.
