I was going through my old wallet contents When I found and old rate card for my studio. Each of use carried the card so we knew exactly what discounts and perks were when talking about packages. The taxes were included in the package price, Perks were back line, Drum Kits, and Mastering discounts. It was nice to pull this card out and share it with prospective clients. Good old sales tricks.

Making snakes for a Patching system

We Built some 24 Channel snakes from some re-claimed Blenden Bundles.  All the EDACs were de-pinned and re-inserted into a 90 pin housing.  The other end has been cut to length and re-prepped into various configurations. Dave got some really good practice on this build and his chops have come a long way in a very short time.

20130804 – New EDACs on patchbays

After a few weekend hours Dave and I finished the EDAC first rounds of EDAC to TT patch bays!

Four patch bays are needed for this project.  They started as standard Horizontally aligned EDAC connectors but with 4 stacked on top of one another and a cable standard of downward hanging EDAC connectors the back needed to change.  With this staggered setup,  the cables will hang in line with no interference.

Here is the finished re-arrangement with the new ground bus wires coming out the side.  I may still add grounding posts to the back of the panels…

The 1/2 designer was the EE – Lacie WhizKey failure

After a year on my key chain, my Lacie WhizKey is unreadable :-( Could anyone recommend a solid replacement?

The cap that came supplied had no locking mechanism, it was lost thus making the contacts exposed to the environment. Cleaning the contacts has brought the device back in the past but I it’s now beyond repair. What a disappointment, it looks so good.

Selling the Invisible (Harry Beckwith) a must read

I’ve been reading a bunch of books on sales and marketing lately and one book that is really sticking out for me is Selling the Invisible by Harry Beckwith. Selling a services is a hard game and recording time, technical services, mixing etc is hyper competitive and this read WILL help anyone selling the intangible. This book would have done me well several years ago but will do me justice for the future.

I’m repairing a Yamaha PG-1 guitar pre-amp and am in need of a reverb tank

The model # I have is 1BB3C1B

1 – Type 1
B – Input Impedance 150 Ohm
B – Output Impedance 2,250 Ohm
3 – decayLong (2.75 to 4.0s)
C – Input Insulated/Output Grounded
1 – No Lock
B – Horizontal Open Side Down

The spring had come apart inside and the other spring must have broken in the past and was removed.

Spectrafoo or Smaart?

I’m looking to invest in a mobile acoustic measurement software and am looking for opinions.

I’ve been playing with the Spectrafoo Demo and I must say it’s very impressive
http://mhsecure.com/metric_halo/products/software/spectrafoo.html and it’s very competitively priced. The Main thing appealing to me about foo is the “Transfer Function Measurement System” I became familiar with while using a SIM system… This to me is the most valuable feature.
