20060723 – HVR ceiling fixture

In 2006 we (Myself and Andrew Waters) built a ceiling diffuser for the studio.  I’ve been doing some data backups and thought I’d share some pictures and info on the build.  The whole thing was made out of 2 X 4s and 3/4″ MDF.  I had a carpenter friend cut all the pieces

Here is the hardware list from Rona.

First we opened up the ceiling to glue up a 2X 4.  PL premium, and tap cons

Andrew came up with a much better frame design that prevented skewing.  While it was on the ground we drilled all the holes for the eye hooks.

With the turnbuckles we could level out the structure at 6 different points

Some test fits proved we were on the right track.

The hook and loop system worked perfectly and all the weight was spread evenly.  OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA
The tines were pre-drilled and matched as a pair.  The as we hung them the pattern was randomized. IMG_6400OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAAll setup the thing worked like a charm.

One of the hardest things to do was sneak in the lights.  I wont share that secret now…
